Eight Weeks to Go

The story begins ... eight weeks until we fly from the U.S. to Eucador. Actually, the story began more than a year ago when the due diligence process began with much study, research, personal interviews, "psychological evaluations" (if you expats or would be expats know what I mean) and a lot of practical thought. This process is ongoing as we near our departure. In hindsight, the process never ends as there is always something else to consider. But, and this is big, it is all doable and exciting!

So much preparation and planning already done -- and so much yet to do.

Here are photos of our apartment we're renting in Cuenca for the first three months that we're there.

More to follow ...

  4. That's a rocking apartment you've got waiting for you! I'm guessing some of your friends and relatives, like ours, thought you'd be living in a thatched hut when you announced you were moving to Ecuador. Look forward to hooking up when you arrive.

  5. Mike,

I have just started my research on Cuenca. I want to go down there sometime before Christmas and stay 2 to 4 weeks to scope out the place. Most of the article I have read said that I could rent a place for between $200 and $400 per month for a furnished apartment, but when I perform an internet search of rentals all the prices are much higher. I suspect the Internet sites are "Gringo prices". Do you know of a place in Cuenco that I could rent this fall at a reasonable price?

  6. David,

Check with Dixie Davey at www.retire-in-ecuador.com. She's the one that we went through to find our apartment. You can be a subscriber and receive her postings. She and her husband relocated to Cuenca from Australia a couple of years ago and she has a lot of great information.

We were able to find our furnished apartment and the rent includes all of the utilities with Dixie's assistance.

    Good luck in your search.

    Mike and Pat
